Why Should a Lawyer Engage in Community

Ari Weisbrot has a BS in political science from Yeshiva College in New York. As a lawyer, he works with his own New Jersey-based law firm and is AV Rated. Attorney Ari Weisbrot studied law at Fordham University School of Law, and has been honored by his synagogue for his community service.

Probably the best-known benefit of volunteering is how it impacts the local community. But that is not the only one. Community service offers several other benefits for a lawyer.

Community service will expand your knowledge of the field you choose to volunteer in, because people learn by doing. Community service helps you develop or attain skills beyond your primary legal practice area.

Volunteering can also be an easy and enjoyable way of exploring your passions and interests. When doing volunteer work, you can discover exciting and meaningful ways of sharing your knowledge and experience as you give back to the community. It offers an energizing escape from your day to day work routine or family commitments. In addition, volunteering generates a sense of purpose - you can find new meaning in life by helping others.

Volunteering is also good for your career, as you are certain to meet many new people and broaden your network. It also strengthens your ties to the local community, exposing you to neighborhood resources as you work with people with common interests.

A Few Common Violations in Legal Ethics

A graduate of the Fordham University School of Law, Ari Weisbrot has been a partner with the Law Office of N. Ari Weisbrot LLC in Hackensack, New Jersey, since 2018. In addition to representing clients in commercial litigation, Ari Weisbrot speaks at colleges and universities on topics related to legal ethics.

A code of conduct that governs the behavior of those working in the field of law, the Rules of Professional Conduct were adopted by the American Bar Association in 1983 and have since been adopted by every state except California. These guidelines address topics for ethical and professional behavior that include refraining from commingling funds and maintaining client confidentiality.

Some of the most commonly breached legal ethics are a lack of communication, meaning the attorney does not keep a client sufficiently informed of legal matters, and commingling of funds, in which case the lawyer does not keep the client’s trust accounts separate from their personal account. Another common ethical violation relates to solicitation, or a lawyer making misleading claims about their services or guaranteeing results.
